It makes me wonder if US railroads are really that much of a target. These[censored] terrorists seem to want to hit targets where there are lots of people, for sensational results. Doesn't this take Amtrak out of the running?

It doesn't surprise me that the terrorists would continue to strike at the railroads in Spain, or in the rest of Europe considering that airline security in most of the European countries I have visited is strict. I have traveled in Europe several times during the past few years, and while the railroads everywhere are readily accessible this is more true of Europe.

Another reason why terorists might more readily pick on the railroads than air is people in Europe tend to go more by rail than by air because rail travel is often cheaper than flying, and the total travel time between two cities is often less by rail than air.

The story of a bomb being found on the AVE line in Spain was the lead story on tonight's Fox Five Ten PM News.

Bomb found on high-speed rail line in Spain

A bomb was found on a high-speed rail track in central Spain on Friday just weeks after 191 people were killed in suspected al Qaeda bombings of four packed Madrid commuter trains. The discovery disrupted travel as millions of Spaniards prepared to leave cities for the Easter week holidays and came on the day a new session of Parliament opened following last month's elections. Interior Minister Angel Acebes said the bomb was believed to contain between 22 and 26 lbs of explosives, probably dynamite.
