Thanks for the tip about Don Phillips. His article seems like deja vu all over again with the near meltdown in service on the SP when it merged with UP and the Conrail buyout by CSX and NS.

Don consistantly delivers an insightlful and interesting look into railroading. He should be a nationally syndicated writer instead of reporting for just one newspaper.
