Is the Chessie #614 still in limbo?????

I read some info recently that New Jersey Transit has supposedly "confiscated" the 614 until money that is owed to the transit authority by Mr. Ross Rowland; the 614's owner is paid.

If this is true has the situation changed any? Where is the 614 at now? Is it being stored indoors or out?

I guess I am a tad emotional about it as I've seen this locomotive pull a 22 car passenger excursion train at 60mph. Was a wonderful experience! I've even been on her cab. I hope that "as far fetched as it sounds" that she will run again someday.

To set the record straight,614 is currently stored in Port Clinton, Pa. We are in discussions with 3 different locations aspotential new display homes for the engine, and hope to select one very soon so that the engine can be moved, cleaned up and put on display this summer. To operate again she will need the full FRA work-up(flues,form4,jacket-lagging etc.) which we estimate will cost somewhere between $350-500k. She is fully equipped with all the necessary devices(cab-signals,speed control,event recorder,full HEP,microproceesor control system tec. etc.) to make her fully Amtrak complient which will be critical to any future mainline excursions. She is for sale for $550k "as is where is", and the only qualification on the buyer is that she not be put into a situation(i.e. a display piece at a Las Vegas casino) where it would hinder her eventual return to service.
As we are currently in discussions with the three locations I need to keep thier identity confidential.

In case you didn't read my other thread, I wanted to say thanks for the experience! I was the 17 year old NRHS car host in the 1981 Tampa to Dunellon excursion. It was very enjoyable. Thnking back, I know that at times my enthusiasm must have been a little annoying as I wanted a memorable time. I'm very greatful for the opportunity!

I'm sorry to read that you must sell her. I'm sure you wouldn't be doing this unless you felt that you have no choice. Times have changed tremendously since 1981. Lawsuits are rampant, liability insurance costs are beyond comprehension, and Class 1s seem to be less friendly towards excursions, so it is understandable.

I hope that you do post info should 614's status change!
