I have all the SPV (Steam Powered Video) atlases issued to this point. They don't yet cover the entire US, but they are getting close. They are great for areas you are not familiar with. They even cover abandon trackage. I use them in conjunction with the DeLORME Gazetteers, which don't have quite as much detail on tracks, but show every back street and alley and most tracks that are still in use. But the best source is local fans. Use SPV and DeLORME to find one good spot then ask the fans there to point out the good spots on these maps. You can get SPV atlases through Walthers and the DeLORME books are available at K Mart and other discount stores for the state you are in.
