Sounds like CSX is just going deeper and deeper down the drain. I think it is too bad, I hate to see a class 1 railroad acting like it is anything but class 1!

It can buy the Super Bowl tickets because it is going to close Stanley yard (ex-Conrail) near Toledo, Ohio by the end of April. Experts??, say no jobs will be lost just transfered to nearby Walbridge yard.

CSX is thinning out its manager ranks. Where I work, there are fewer crews working and fewer employees than just about any time in the recent past. There are more bosses than at any time I can remember. They could almost put a boss on each yard job and still have enough to hide in the bushes to watch you. I don't like seeing anyone lose their job, but the bosses with seniority somewhere still have some place to go. (They keep their craft seniority if they maintained union membership; that is, if they kept their dues up-to-date.)

It's all management that's going.

It needs to be done, there are so many management positions that are a waste of time and money. It gets to a point where there are so many managers that all the middle managers do is pass on info from the lower management to the higher management.

They need to cut the fat in management (like they are) and focus their money on the running trades and track infastructure.

I would submit that the underlying fundamentals for CSXT right now are bad and may be getting worse. First, CSXT is heavily leveraged thanks to the CR fiasco. CSXT has to make an incredible amount of money just to stay current on debt service. Second, CSXT service remains the worst of the 6 Class Ones. If rail traffic continues to grow, combined with poor service, there is a real chance of another rail industry "meltdown". Finally, no one is running the company. CSXT management is like the deer caught in the headlighst....managers are more concerned about their job security than running the railroad.

It's a sad shame. What a stark contrast to one of its main predecessor railroads, the Seaboard Coat Line. Used to be criticized for being a "backward" southern railroad yet it was better run, profitable, (and more family oriented) system.

Perhaps either a break up or a merger might help CSX. It starts with leadership. Not just the CEO, but the entire crop of leaders. If you don't communicate and encourage your employees regularly as a unit then morale and job quality will suffer greatly.

Prime Osborn (SCL) and Hays Watkins (Chessie) have been out of the Captain's chairs for years now. It's too bad that CSX no longer has leaders like these guys.

Morale?? What is that? It is hard to have a positive attitude when you have company officers trying to fire you for not saying "over" after a radio transmission.
Off the subject (kinda) CSXT 8888 is now one of many remote control units.....LOOK OUT!!
