Tricks of the train crews thread

Howdy everyone,

I once heard that two trains can pass on a mainline with only a spur and not one trian has to stop, how is it done? I am also hoping to start a thread on other complex tricks like this one.

Not too sure about that one, if it was a spur, then one train would have to backup at some point.......

If it was a passing siding, and the train was short enough (with the siding long enough), then the train could go really really slow in the passing siding while another train passes on the main....

Don't the crews do an inspection of the other train when their train is in the siding? This used to be done, but have they stopped doing it? [?]

As far as I know, crews still do running inspections of all trains that pass them in sidings.

When the train is sitting in the siding they watch the passing train, then radio to that train to let them know if everything is alright, or if there are any problems.
