No, TPW and BNSF are moving in two different directions. However there was a rumor going around about NS sniffing around the Tip-up.

The down town Amtrak depot is a good spot as is the Thirlwell Street Bridge
Cameron to the west is very good where the two lines cross
East Galesburg offers some good sun angles
I think there are NO bad spots in Galesburg for train watching.

Does this mean BNSF will BUY TP&W AGAIN FROM Rail America?

From Peoria Rails Yahoo Group
DPJ the human rail encyclopedia of Peoria
Toledo, Peoria & Western's Galesburg Job is running on a new
schedule following the discontinuance of the joint BNSF-TP&W
intermodal traffic. The job goes on duty at East Peoria each Monday,
Wednesday and Friday at 5:00am, returning eastbound in the
afternoon. They may also run once either Saturday or Sunday if
necessary. Apparently, the tri-weekly service is BNSF's idea though
it frees up power for other TP&W trains.
In addition, it has come to my attention that most of the
Caterpillar and Mitsubishi intermodal business is now handled
through the Logistics Park facility near Joliet. Strangely, SOME of
this traffic is drayed to/from CN's Edward L. Moyers Intermodal
Terminal at Markham and rail-hauled to/from East Peoria from there!
With this in mind, it might make more sense for TP&W and CN to
handle this business between East Peoria and Vancouver, BC!
The discontinuance of the joint BNSF-TP&W intermodal business has
left the East Peoria Yard looking quite empty. The loss of this
business, however, may lead to the solicitation of more carload
business. Certainly, Nestle/Libby's USA in Morton will ship canned
pumpkin to BNSF destinations in boxcars rather than pay for drayage
of pumpkin-laden semi-trailers to Logistics Park. Also, the
development of a new industrial park in Mapleton will help if it
means attracting new rail users.

This is a link to the Willis Railcam in Galesburg. It's temporarily offline at the time of this posting, but consider it's night and it may be up tomorrow. You see quite a few trains on it.

I have been going there for a couple of years and can answer a few of your questions.
1. The old Santa fe depot just down the street from the Ramada is a good place. If you give me your E-Mail adress I can send you a photo I took down there to give you some idea.
2. You want it on the east side of the building, (that's the back side opposite of where you enter) but if I remember rite those are smoking rooms so it matters on your tolorance level. But if you do get a room on that side there is a balcony!!!! If you arent able to get a room on that side you can go down to the window on the side of the hotel and see the old Santa Fe from there. (It's mostly all intermodal).
3. I really don't know what your talking about.
4. On the old Santa Fe there is tons of it if you catch it at the right time. I've seen FURX SD40-2s go through, CSX consists, and just plain BNSF pool power.
If You E-MAIL me I can probably get you some more infromation on it. My E-MAIL adress is traingeek087@hotmail.com
talk to ya soon.
