Actually the locos were fine (Except for being walkways up to mud & water I quess) it was one of the racks on fire.

And yes, Trains Unlimited was great. Glad I taped a few!

The History Channel here in Canada has "Great Train Stories" on every Saturday at 10:00am pacific time.

It's a great show, always talking about the history of the railroads, lots of shows on steam engines and the biulding of the trans-canadian railway.

Let's get it straight. It's Kingfisher, Oklahoma, on the old Rock Island line from Kansas City to Ft. Worth through El Reno, Oklahoma where connections were made with their line from Memphis, Tenn. to Tumcacari, New Mexico. Kingfisher is about 45 to 50 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. MKT became the operator of this line after the Rock's demise, and thus it became U.P.'s when they bought the "Katy". As for the engineers, they crawled out of the units, called for help and were picked up by a maintence worker driving a "Hi-Rail". The were not hurt. Hope this helps a little. Paul

I haven't seen any trains on TV since Trains Unlimited on the History Channel. Wasn't that a great show? I've a lot of DVD sets of it.

First of all, mapquest calls it Kingfisher, OK.
Second, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas Ry must be some short line, the Katy was the M-K-T (Missouri-Kansas-Texas).
Third, I wouldn't put it past mapquest to get the name of the railroad wrong on their maps because the last time I looked they still had Southern listed as one of the railroads that still runs through Martinsville, VA. They also still list Burlington Northern and the AT & SF Rwy as seperate railroads around the Wichita area, for example.

It looks like Kingfish, OK is on a line connecting KC and Dallas. Though, its not on the Golden State Route (KC - El Paso). I also don't think that this is the main CHGO - Dallas route. That goes to the East through Little Rock. If you look up the route on Mapquest, it still shows the line as Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas Ry (KATY, right?)

O.K. I know it's the Weather Channel NOT the Wheather Channel. Blame it on "FAT Fingers."

This is not the only "news" type item about the UP that has been on the Wheather Channel. I recently saw a brief report on UP's current problems with no crews and train delays.

UP Wreck shown on the weather Channel?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 6, 2004 6:23 AM
Ok, this morning I waas checking out my local forecast on the weather channel, and they started talking about a UP wreck in Kingfish (Where that is I havn't a clue), they even showed footage. An autorack train on fire. they said floods washed out the track, and it wouldn't surprise me because you couldn't see any track because of the water. I guess Im not used to trains on tv ever since trains Unlimited went off.
