I went back today. It appears to have happened at a private grade crossing (read diveway to a house). The cars' trucks are placed at the NE corner of the crossing. The two cars (still lying on their sides) are just East of the crossing. A ton of ballast has been poured over the tracks West of the grade crossing. The rails are still visible, however, the rock is higher than the rail in the center of the track.
As this is the first forum I have posted on, I have not a clue on a way to show y'all the seven pictures I have.
After moving down here two years ago, I was under the impression these tracks were "out of service." I have seen some MOW equipment on the line, but nothing big. I figured UP was just trying to keep the line from going to pot. Oh, well, live and learn.

Traveling along State Route 32 between Farmington, Mo., and Ste. Genevieve, Mo., (West to East) I came across two covered hopper cars on their sides. One car's roof was facing the road, the other's was facing the rails. 32 runs East and West and at this point the rails are on the South side of the road behind a screen of trees. The line is listed as o/s in SPV's Atlas. The cars were not there one week a go. Farther East, I came across a train with open and covered hoppers and three GP looking units in Union Pacific colors. The train was east of New Offenburg.
