there was some mention of this on the news today. the derailment was near Kingfisher Oklahoma. it was an autorack train that hit a washout and dumped all those new cars into the mud. one of the racks caught fire and was smoking pretty good from the pictures i saw.

UP was doing an awful lot of work in OK a few weeks ago between Muskogee and the TX border

It would not suprise me that more UP have gone off the rails in Oklahoma. Some of those tracks are really rough. I swear the cabs must jump a foot in the air sometimes. Especially between Parson Ks & Wagoner OK.

And its not like Metro snuck this in overnight, they have been building the line for about two years, heavy TV time explaining all about it, and pretty big road signs and billboards warning drivers about the dangers.
I did notice the trainsets seemed to have a pretty nice bumper under the skin, and they dont seem to get that much damage out of these hits, except the one where the UP work truck got whacked, that was a high speed test run, and it pretty much wiped out the front of the train.

Joe, they should come up with a diffrent name for it, between 3:30 and 8:00pm, nothing about Houstons freeways resembles anything like a rush, more like a crazed turtle stampeed.
We dont have rude or impaitent drivers, we got the industrial strength motorized pyschopaths.
I think they actually enjoy the chance to try and run over each other every morning and evening, sorta like a dose of self prescribed anger management therapy.

Looking at that accident archive for your light rail system, I have to say it looks your area might take away the Crown Of "Stupidest Drivers on Earth" away from Los Angeles, Those cab photos of people INTENTIONALLY turning right in front of the trains show a mind boggling lack of intellegence.

Would turn like that in front of a semi-truck?

That they do!
My wife had to drive downtown this morning, and passed the light rail line.
She was impressed, said the train are a lot faster than the buses, and make quite a lot more noise.
She was astounded than someone couldnt hear them, the horns and bells, and the flashing high intensity strobe lights startled her the first time she saw one of the trains.

And there is signage everywhere, warning drivers when they can and cant turn left, tied into the traffic light signal system.
Still, some folks dont seem to learn...

Well, I checked out the light rail one - guess you just can't stop the dummies - and one of them was a UP truck! Put up concrete barriers and they will still try to get over them!
