AS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF NARP OF WHOM IM SURE MANY OF YOU ARE.IN CNSVERSATIONS WITH ROSS CAPON,EXEC DIR OF NARP. THERE IS APROBLEMN BEING CEATED ESPECIALLY IN MISSOURI WHERE AMTRAK HAS THREATEN TO DISCONTINUE 1 OF 2 TRAINS SERVICING THE STLOUIS-KANSAS CITY AREA DUR TO LACK OF FUNDING FROM THE MISSOURI SENATE/HOUSE. AS OF THIS WRITING ITS STILL UP IN THE AIR AS TO WHETHER THE 2 TRAINS IN QUESTION AFFECTIONALY CALLED THE '"MULES" BY MISSURIANS WILL BE DISCONTINUES, EVEN AFTER ALL THE CONCESSIONS MADE AT THE BEGINNING OF FISCAL 2004 ,IE; 2 AGENTS DISCONTINUED AT BUSY STATIONS A 5.00 SURCHARGE PER TICKET ON ALL TICKETS FOR TRAVEL WITHIN THE STATE,DOESNT AFFECT INTERSTATE TRAVEL. IF ANY FO YOU HAVE ANY INPIUT WITH AMTRAK OR MISSOURISTATE SENATORS/REPERESENTATIVES PLEASDE URGE THEM TO PROVIDE THE EXTRA FUNDS 885,000 NEEDED TO KEEP THE "MULES" RUNNING AT LEAST UNTIL JUNE30,224 AND TO SUPPORT THE 6.2.MILLION AMTRAK HAS ASKED FOR IN THE 2005 FISCAL YEAR STARTING JULY1,2004. tHANK YOU FOR ANY HELP, FRANK PASSER,NARP WESTERN MO MEMBER(KANSAS CITY0 E .MAIL frank.passer@sbcglobal.net

I want them to keep all trains and add some also the $5.00 Surcharge IS OUT RAGES and bring back the agents at busy stations

I am afraid that if WE THE PEOPLE do not start letting our elected representatives know how we feel that we will start loosing more Amtrak trains. I agree that we need to start letting them know and start doing it NOW. Find out an email addy and email them. Write a letter and send it by regular mail. DO SOMETHING AND DO IT NOW. If we continue to allow the service provided by Amtrak to decrease, before long there will be nothing left.

first welcome to the forums.I know alot of older people that use amtrak cause its eaisier than flying for them.I hope the govt can start to see that.

We will lose the weakest trains that are state specific such as the Mules without state support. Many other states with serious financial problems are still finding ways to support their intrastate trains, look at California and New York...
