The person we should truly feel sorry for is the poor engineer of the train when he realized what had happened with his train!

I feel very sorry for the man's family. Let's hope Jr. is NOT like "dear ole Dad" in the
future.

Kevin, I sort of agree with you: I know that I would not want to be the minister delivering this man's eulogy. Cause I sure the heck would not know what to say, and I seriously doubt that I could keep a straight face[:I]

Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!

'People should use trees to commit suicide instead of trains'

People with suicidal tendencies in Botswana have been asked to throw themselves out of trees instead of in front of trains.

The country's Minister for Works and Transport, Tebelelo Seretse, has advised people to use trees instead.

She made the plea in a newspaper based in the capital Gaborone.

"I am appealing to the people not to use the trains to kill themselves. If people want to commit suicide they should use trees not our trains," she said.

"I am sick of these people who throw themselves in front of the trains. The drivers are people - why turn them into murderers?"

She has offered counselling to drivers who have to dealt with suicides, says the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

vsmith ------- You asked "What was this guy thinking?" That's just the problem. He wasn't. He needed a brain first. I can see the headline on one of those papers we wee at the market --- " Mand dies in Shopping Cart Pulled by Train -- He had no Brain."

It does sound funny in one way, but as a result of this stupid act, a family has been devastated and a young man lost his dad.

There are many guys out there that like to do "Dukes of Hazzard" slap-stick stunts. This poor *** was proabably a good hearted guy, but he had to know that playing with full sized trains was stepping way over the line as well as being dangerous and illegal.

If anything, his son after a lot of grieving, will learn from this and hopefully use better judgement when he has his own children someday.

Thinning of the "gene pool" is another good way to describe it.

Man Dies After Tossing Rope At Train

SIMI VALLEY — A 43-year-old man tossed a rope into the path of a freight train, apparently on a lark, and was killed after becoming entangled in the rope and dragged by the train, authorities said.
Alan Pichel Sr. was hanging out with his 17-year-old son near the train tracks Monday evening when he threw a bottle tied to a shopping cart into the train's path, said John Bromley, a spokesman for Union Pacific Railroad.

"Apparently, they wanted to watch the shopping cart be dragged along by the train," Bromley said.

Authorities say it remains unclear exactly how Pichel became entangled, though police Sgt. Joe May said the man's death was the result of "a strange chain of events."

"I've heard about people getting hit by the train, or people committing suicide by stepping in front of the train, but nothing like this," May said.

Police stopped the train, which was moving about 15 mph, after about a mile. Coroner's officials said an autopsy showed Pichel died from multiple blunt-force injuries.

Pichel's son, Alan Jr., said Tuesday that he and his father "weren't even that close to the tracks." "He just didn't see it coming and it caught him. It happened so fast," he said, adding that his father liked to joke around. "He was just the funniest guy," the teen said. "He was a character."
