Union Pacific Flag Decal
Posted by wcfan4ever on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 2:08 PM
I was wondering if or how there is a way to obtain one of those flag decals. I have tried many companies that produce decals but have come up with nothing. Should I contact UP? If all else fails, does someone know the dimensions of the decal? I am just trying to add to the collection of decals that appear on locomotives. I have two Wisconsin Central's, one BNSF, two UP's, a CNW, and a Fox River Valley and Western.

Thanks

it would probibly cost you a large sum of money if you went to UP, assuming they even would sell it to you. you never know the way UP is these days.

Being that they quit using them, if there are still any around you may be able to get one.

Hey WC Fan,
Sorry to stray from the topic, but interesting to see in your signature block that the WC #3002 is holding down switching detail in MTWC this week. I was on a tour of Shops yard when they were rebuilding the #3000 series group. They looked tough back then, but they became the kings of the railroad when they came out of that rebuild program. What a testament to the great group of people that WC had at Fond du Lac - until CN blew all of that up.

Do you know how big the Neenah - Mtwc train has been as of late. Last time I was in town, it looked like one of the malting plants near the hospital was being closed up and maybe torn down. Has that impacted traffic?
Gracias -

The Neenah to Manitowoc train (L-52481) has been big. They have been bringing in 30+ cars daily. That malting plant that you are talking about has been shut down for about 6 or 7 years now. They are taking it down to make way for another hospital parking lot and skywalk. That used to be the only reason the Wisconsin Central came into town.

Thanks for the update Dave -
Do you know who else WC serves at Mtwc?

My in-laws used to live right on the WC in Valders so I'd get to see those trains fairly often. At their prime, approx 10 yrs ago, I had seen trains w/ 3-4 units pulling 100 grain cars. Quite a site.

The WC/CN serves Budweiser, Weyerhauser, Lakeside Foods, Red Arrow Products, Rockwell Lime(Rockwood), and a few feed mills here and there. They also bring in coal for the power plant witch they are currently adding another boiler and have plans to start up a coal train. The power plant in town has purchased around 200 coal hoppers for future operations. They say they are stored in the St. Paul area.
Today, you are lucky to catch more than three engines. Now that the train runs at night because of power shortage in Neenah, I hardly am able to see it, coming in around 12am and leaving around 4am. I can't remember that last time I saw a 100 car train in this town.

It wouldn't fit onto the side of a van, I've seen a photo where they put one on the side of a building and a delivery van was parked outside and the decal was larger that the van. Sorry.
