Dale Jr. Wins Daytona 500
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 15, 2004 4:10 PM
Today I salute Dale Earnhart Jr. who won the Daytona 500. [:D]

Six years ago his father won this race.

Now Jr. has won it. [:)]

Many of us miss Dale Sr., but it is good to see Jr. win. [;)]

Congrats to Dale Jr. and it's nice that NASCAR is back--especially if you're Texas Rangers fan--what a mess that franchise is!!! Baseball in North Texas has me rooting for the Astros--did I say that out loud??

I didn't get to see the whole race but I believe Ward Burton was black flagged for missing a lug nut--NASCAR has rivet counters too!!!

Jr. might have been on rails but his teammate was derailing like Amtrak.

Yes and it was a heart wrenching moment. Actually more like minutes. Most of the time they can walk away. I remember the day Dale Sr. didn't walk away. I , and many other railfans, cried that day. [:(]

The saddest thing about Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s passing was he was trying to help a teammate when his crash occurred.

Eh, BIG DEAL...If ya like NASCAR, Jim, thats cool but I havent been able to get into that scene at all.
Round and round they go, without going anywhere. BTW I've lost interest in Formula 1 ever since they "corralled" the track in those concrete barriers and chainlink fences its dam near impossible to watch those races thru those dam fences. The only racing I like now I cant even go to in this country and thats European road rally racing. no special roadways or crash barriers, fans right up to the coarse, and cars racing from asphalt to dirt, thru water ruts etc. Alot of fun to watch. Vic

   Have fun with your trains

I know what you mean. Maybe we can get a seperate forum area for off-train-topic discussions? The problem is with all these non-train topics coming up it's getting hard to weed out what's trains and what's not, and those train topics get pushed off to page two and futher. It's just like spam and junk mail in your email inbox: it takes time to sort out what's legit and what's junk and it's distracting.

Maybe they (the staff) can put an off topic room for us to "take a break" in now and then? Or is that what the Trains.com General Discussion area is for?

If you look at what we're under it's Trains Magazines and then Railroads, the other one is Trackside Guides, and there are waaaaaay many topics that have nothing to do with railroads in here.

I'd just say if they don't give us another forum room to post non-trains stuff in then we should try to exercise caution on the off-topic threads 1) because it get's distracting to sort through them all and 2) if it gets way to out of hand the next thing we know topics will be locked left and right. Someone showed me a train simulator forum website where 1/2 of all the topics were locked for either being off topic or getting off topic. If you pose a legitimate question and someone goes on a off topic it gets locked. If the topic is not train software related it gets locked. If you point out how many locked topics there are in one day, it gets locked.

But since the Daytona 500 topic has already been started I'll say Go Dale Jr.! Go for that championship!

That was the best 500 I've seen yet (best race ever was Bristol- Aug 2002). And the pre-race tribute to America-- better than the Super Bowl halftime farce. I was choked up with patriotic pride. Lee Greenwood, Leann Rimes- now those are entertainers.

Hey, maybe I should find my Martinsville, VA Trains thread. Have they got those RR tracks moved from the race track yet? Lemme go find that thread and see if our fellow race fans are still around.

suggestion from the kitty box - let people who want - make an off-topic non-trains statement/posting - and if you don't like it, don't respond. That keeps the topic short and readable. But posting many "who cares" takes a topic from 1 short page to 3-4 pages long and you have to wade thru the whole thing to see if there is something about a train. So if a non-trains item is posted, just don't read it - or if you are curious like I am - read them all and then wonder why your eyes are crossed!

How about the posts on a topic like that do not get added to the person's post count, therefore you can post nosense stuff but you won't get in trouble for posting too much just to raise your post count.

You it's like I put on the MR forum during the recent flamefest over there.....You go to church because you go to be with other folks that share the same religion and worship.....but while your there, you talk sports, work, gossip whatever witht the folks as well as religion. It was the common religion that brought you together but it doesn't mean that it has to be the only subject discussed....Big deal on stars and stuff...much ado about nothing......stars don't make the man, they don't get you any extra in the paycheck, so why worry about it......I think some folks just complain to complain.......big deal... good for Dale Jr....
