At least where I was, railroaders referred to the GE's (passenger diesels, not AEM-7's)]as "ugly fiberglass bricks" or just "bricks"..... and/or "uglies"....we all observed the paint as being flat (not shiny) and we all know you can't shine _______[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

The "Winnebagos" are Metra 185-214, F40PH-2M's, nickname is based on their appearance. They currently operate on the Burlington line to Aurora and the Rock Island line to Joliet.

They are the last locomotives to be built in La Grange.

We've always referred to the newer Metra F40s (not sure of model or exact numbers...those in the 190s and low 200s) as Winnebagos. The front end, and those air-conditioning units on top are highly suggestive of the campers.

(As long as I'm in here correcting a typo, I might as well point you in the direction of the following post from over Hegewisch way.)

Can any one tell me, for what kind of railcar or locomotive the nickname "winnebago" is used? i have often read this name, but i have never seen what it is.

Thanks, Micha
