Turbine-electric sounds UP (gas) & N&W (steam)

The closest sound that I can remember is the United Aircraft Turbotrain on its national tour in the mid-70's. While accelerating from Whiting IN on Penn Central, it sounded a lot like a 727 or DC9 taking off at Midway.

The turbins in todays aircraft are hi-bypass models and do have a wistling sound before you get trounced with the ROAR from the fire end. Non-bypass turbins just roar. The units in question were all made prior to the bypass systems being used.

I think a gas turbine would always have a different sound to a steam turbine. The gas turbines I've heard, in aircraft and ships always have quite a loud whistle, while steam turbines are described as having more of a "whoosh" sound (like steam from the cylinder cocks or safety valve of a normal steam locomotive. Lionel produced a Pennsylvania S-2 Turbine with a sound unit. (I know, I have one, although it's a long time since I ran it and listened to the sound) and it had a whoosh sound that got louder as it increased in speed. Could you get that from them as a spare?

Although the PRR loco had the turbine connected directly to the axles, it should still sound more like the Jawn Henry than a GE jet engine in a UP turbine. The ships have GE gas turbines too, if that proves anything. I can't claim to have heard a steam turbine, because in ships they always exhausted into condensers and made no noise at all.

Does anyone know how the UP Gas Turbine sounds compared to the N&W Jawn Henry Steam Turbine ?

The reason being, is the QSI system in the Lionel HO scale Veranda model close enough to be used for a N&W Jawn Henry model?
