How Long for a Transcontinental Trip in 1900?

I was asked that question recently, and I don't have any easy access to copies of schedules. How long would it take to get from San Francisco to New York in the period 1890 - 1900?

I would prefer an answer that reflects numbers taken from actual schedules, not general estimates which I have found. I also don't care where you change trains, although the most likely terminal was Chicago. (And, don't forget to allow time for the transfer from one terminal to another!!)
