Rail Suppliers taking a beating?

YSL industries, of Youngstown, OH, a manufacturer of various freight car components is reported in TRAINS News Wire as being in danger of closing. Last year only a consortium of freight car manufacturers succeeded in saving the last U.S. manufacturer of freight car trucks. The only U.S. manufacturer of passenger car trucks is gone I believe causing numerous problems for passenger car builders.

Where will new equipment come from in the future? China?? India??

LC:

It's not only the railcar componet manufacturers, the maintenance supply & equipment side is as heavilly threatened as well...

Jackson/Jordan/Tamper/Canron/Speno/Harsco/Fairmont is all the same company now...THe Chinese (Yangtse)have been selling spikes, bolts, OTM and other stuff in this country for 20 years now....IronKen hears that Meridian (Who bought out ABC Rail) is about to change hands or go under...

MC-

I didn't realize how much of the MOW side had collapsed as well. Pretty scary. I did see at least one ad for rail cars buiult in China to AAR specs so I guess it's just a matter of time. I know Meridian was a house of cards. Any idea who the buyer might be?
