cancellation of Amtrak International

I came across an article stating that Amtrak is cancelling the Toronto-Chicago "International". What is the reason for this, and when is this to occur?

From what I have heard, it is trouble getting across the boarder from Canada into the US.

It has to do with our EL STUPIDO national Secerity which for trains it will delay them

I am not sure a date is set. The Amtrak timetable just says that the service could change sometime before April and to contact Amtrak Reservations.

While the delays for customs inspections are part of the problem, the Michigan funding is also an issue. Like many others, Michigan has tax revenue problems and I think Amtrak is trying to make the service more attractive to Michigan residents so the state payments are at least somewhat more acceptable to the state government.

Its superperlous. Canada runs a train to Windsor, and Amtrak will still be running a train to Detroit. This train, actually does not serve Detroit, so goodbye..... However, it would be nice if Via and Amtrak got together and operated the train through Detroit with a convenient connection......

As I've said before, if you don't like what's going on..vote. The folks that want to blow you up are still out there......I apparently don't know much about how to run a railroad, nor apparently how to keep Mr. and Mrs America safe at in their beds at night, so I'll just quit. So if you've got a better idea how to do, we're all ears...

There could be many resons.Getting across the border in a timely fashion could be one reason, but do the Adirondack and the Maple Leaf experience the same border crossing delays? If ridership is the problem why not reroute the train through Detroit and Windsor as Don Clark suggested?
