Good to know that you're from there.

We have family members that grew up in that area.  So every time I visit, I try to take in some railfanning.  The mainline that runs through Lyons and Vidalia, from my understanding, was Seaboard Airline's way back when.   The Georgia Central owns the line now and on my last 2 trips there saw westbound freight around 5 p.m each time.   Usually hauled by classic high nosed GE U-Boats (ex-Southern or Norfolk & Western) though I wonder for how much longer. Those GE prime movers in the U-Boats are loud!

On my next trip, I'm going to contact the locomotive shop at the east end of Lyons and ask if they would allow me onto the property to take photos (can't hurt to try).

Thanks for sharing.  The first CSX train's locomotive had a K5H horn, while on the 2nd video that was a K5LA (I like variety). Don't feel bad about the shaking. In the long run you can get a small tripod for your camera as they've come down quite a bit in price.

One of the features I enjoy about Georgia (outside and far away from Atlanta) is the gorgeous countryside scenes. Many are still unspoiled, especially near the Lyons and Reidsville areas.

Lyons and Reidsville are near where I grew up.  How did you end up in that neck of the woods, if you don't mind me asking?

We're probably the only two people on the forum who have even heard of those places, let alone been there.  For the rest of you, one has to be going there to get there - nowhere near a major city, highway or airport.

Well, these videos may not be the best.... Yes they are shakey and the sound isnt great, but thats only with the first. The second sits on the banister of the platform and is much stiller. Please enjoy.

(Note, yes, you do see Samsung on the first video. The video camera I used on the trip doesnt have a usb connection, so I recorded it with my digital camera.)
