The Art of the Streamliner

This was a book "plugged" in Trains magazine at one point, written by Bob Johnston and Joe Welsh (ISBN # 1-58663-146-2)that is an excellant documentary , both textform and photowise, of the heyday of dieselized passenger service in this country..

Some of you guys (Superchief fan etc) obviously take your passenger loco memorabilia very seriously, and if you haven't already gotten yourself a copy of this book, I strongly recommend it.

[?] AntiGates--is this still in print? I just read your post and I've begun searching for it online. I definitely would like to have a copy. Do you at least recall what issue or year Trains Magazine was plugging it? I've never heard of it. Please let me know. Thanks.

I can't recall which issue of trains, but it was in the last 24 months in the "recommended reading" section. First published by Metro Books 122 Fifth Avenue, NY NY 10011

mINE was published by Andover Junction Publications, in 2001.

Got it on the "close out" table at a larger "Barnes & Noble" bookstore, for $15.00, have seen it on the close out table several times since I bought it.

Has a big picture of the Burlington Zypher on the front cover, and the UP M-10000 on the back which is actually one big "wrap around" photo, showing them both side by side....good luck....I'd hit Barnes & Noble if I were you...[:I]

TAG, I feel like a dunce. The title kept striking a chord! I'm thinking, waaaaaaait a minute, I've got that here...somewhere. Sure enough, I rummage through some books that I've purchased (and have yet to read them all) and there it was. Of special note to me was page seven--showing the first streamlined version of Santa Fe's Super Chief. Thanks just the same--I got some catching up to do in the reading department! [:D]

....That page seven photo sounds familiar.....I believe that pic was featured in TRAINS mag some years ago. The scene I'm remembering is the train coming towards the camera and what looks like a slight up grade. The engine has slanted flat nose.

I actually picked up a copy of this one at my local Barnes & Noble, in the value book section, last June for $14.98. Cool book!

OK, so what's the title, unless, of course, it's "The Art of the Streamliner". [:I]

Hey Modelcar. I'm sure it's the same picture. The caption below the pic states the train is on the outskirts of Chicago in 1937. It's a great photo.
