I am not sure which turntable you are referring to in Richmond, VA. We have yards here for three railroads; CSX (former Chessie) out on Williamsburg Road, NS South of the river downtown, and CSX (former RF&P) in the west part of town at Acca Yard. The only turntable I have looked at recently in Richmond is off Williamsburg Road and I don't think it is in use anymore.

Having said all that, I know there is one at the Amtrak station in Lorton (I think) up in northern Virginia. US Rte I-95 was being widened near there in the 1990s and there were two bridges over one leg of a wye track they used to turn equipment there. The highway department determined it would cost less to build a turntable for the railroad there and take out the wye so they could avoid widening the bridges when they widened the interstate. That turntable was completed in the mid 1990s and I believe it is still in use today.

It will be interesting to see how many we get reports of that still operate. - Ed
