Can anyone help me find published or online phtos of the engines painted in Maersk corporate colors? (Norfolk Southern SDF40-2 No. 3329 and Santa Fe GP60M No. 146). Thanks for your help.

If you go to http://www.railpictures.net , in the middle of the page is a search box...just put maersk in the keywords box and several pictures come up.

I know Maersk is a shipping company, but why would there be engines painted with their logo and name? Are there any other engines around with different companies' names on them like this?

They painted the locomotives up for Maersk because of a partnership between the railroads and the shipping company. They were used at a grand opening of a new terminal. The NS locomotive is a SD-40-2 and the BNSF was a SDF-40-2. In the early 90's Santa Fe painted a GP-60M up for a one day photo shoot. NS has a GP-59 with the name Transcear painted on the side. The Sept/Oct 2002 issue of Diesel Era had a real nice article on the Maersk units.

It was a promo thing for Maersk....Used to do a video/film for advertising purposes on Cajon Pass among other things after the tunnels in Northern CA were enlarged to accommodate doublestacks with the big 9.5 foot tall containers... There were other "repainted engines" out there for various reasons (OLI, Olympics, UPRR Desert Storm, General Electric from the 1950's, Freedom Train, OOCL come to mind)...Maersk was the most recent visible example....The Maersk/ATSF engine came to LA's Hobart Yard and sat under wraps for a week before the film crew showed up....NS's engine was painted much later than ATSF's....

There was scuttlebutt about UPS painting an engine, but that idea apparently died when somebody learned that some overnight business went by train instead of by air on weekends (LA - Chicago for example at the premium rate)

H'mmmmm "UP" vs "UPS"... I think brown engines with gold trim would be MUCH more attractive than armour yellow
