Here is a union that needs a purging and a Federal Trusteeship like the one the Teamsters have had for several years to root out the corruption and keep it out. Also, the Congress needs to take a good hard look at the FELA system and some alternatives. The way the system is set up this sort of thing was bound to happen. The question is, does this sort of thing go on with other unions that have members subject to FELA (BLE, BRS, BMWE, Machinists and Electricians)?? Also, the Jones Act (governing merchant marine among others) may also have these issues. Something needs to be done to protect the injured employee without opening the door to this sort of abuse.

LC
QUOTE: Originally posted by star humper

From the other postings it is clear that the U.S. Department of Justice Southern District of Texas under the leadership of Michael Shelby United STates Attorney is perparing to go to trail.

Lets look at a few items related to the case.
1) 2 UTU members that were both campaign managers for 2 UTU presidents have reached a plea Bargin.
They have stated or in the case of one (lied and then confessed and stated) that the President Current and Past was taking so called pay offs.

2)Former Designated Legal Counsels made payments.
3)Other UTU members took and gave money (laundry) both for gain and some unaware of themselfs being used for passing the money.
4)Former and current Designated Legal Counsel have been given a "deal" to tell the truth. After the next serious of trails it is believed that the Lawyer reveiw boards will have records and can and should revoke their license to pratice.
5)the U.S. Department of Justice is currently only interested in Crimes going back for approximately 6 years. It is believed that the practice has been occurfing for years .
6)There has been a report of coverups.
7)There has been reports of destruction of evidence.

So, can the UTU under new leadership ever get clean to what the memberships would like?

What do you think?
star humper
