canadian pacific locomotives

does canadian pacific make their own locomotives?
how much horsepower do they have etc. is there a web site that has this info.

Not that I know of. Some of them are repainted Soo locomotives and I've seen some new c44dash 9s around BEsenville, Il.

Before the coming of diesel all CP locomotives were built at the Angus Shops in Montreal. During the 50's (?60's) the Angus Shops became Montreal Locomotive Works (which was really a division of Alco) and built locomotives into the 70's when they were shut down. Now most of CP fleet is made up of GE AC4400's, SD60's, and a few Alcos that haven't run themselves into the ground yet. Check out www.railscanada.com for some more info.

Don't forget about all of the old SD-40-2's. The last several months the evil (haha) Canadians have seemed to be sending ever increasing numbers of these tired old things...they lassoed our SD-60's and took alot of our GE's.
Hell, I thought that because we were first seeing the 90Mac's recently that they were new...nope, I was wrong....been around 4-5 years.

they don't exactly make their own, but i think that they assembled their SD-90MAC's, from kits that EMD supplied, at one of their shops. also the newer engines from GE are 4400 or 6000 horsepower depending on the model. the EMDs are either 4300 or 6000, again depending on the model. older units like SD-60's are 3800, most of the rest are 3000hp.

CP gets their MAC 90s in parts (frames, motors, cowels, and smaller parts) and asembles them in Calgary Alberta. Some Body parts are placed on the Frames. That asembly is put in one end of the shop and a completed MAD 90 comes out the other end. As part of the NMRA PNR 6th div. convention last year in Calgary we got to tour the operation.

Actually MLW was a separate operation dating from 1907

CP in the days of steam, aquired locos from numerous sources including Dubs of Scotland, and American maufacturers such as Baldwin, Alco, Rogers and Canadian builders such as MLW and CLW ( Canadian Locomotive Works in Kingston Ontario Canada). They did build steam locos in both the New Shops and the Angus Shops in Montreal, in fact the last steam locos built by CPR came from Angus Shops. Now as far as diesels are concerned Alcos and MLWs are long gone being replaced by GE AC4400CWs, SD 90 MACs, SD90 MAC H (only 4 6000 hp units) SD40 Fs (unique to CP) and hordes of SD40s and SD40-2s of which some are now being sold or scrapped. GEs of course are built in Erie PA and most of the SDs are and were built in London Ontario, except for the SD90 MACs. SD 60s came from Soo Line.
