Don't think it's going to happen, we have had enough mergers!

Yeah, have to agree about the merger. UP would lose a lot if they merged with the CSX. Don't look for a merger until BNSF does something...then you MAY see a merger take place. Besides, the gov't has to give its ok as well. I am in serious doubts. If you all may recall, the merger with SP devastated the UP. They had trains sitting all over their system without crews to operate them and you know the story goes. They barely could handle the SP, and are finally getting past the bad images of that merger. So I am saying that things will remain as they are until the BNSF does something first.

UP still has more to lose with a merger than it would gain by merging with either CSX or NS. So don't look for the UP executive team to be on the prowl. And don't be surprised if NS headquarters get visited, too.

I think that of the two western railroads, BNSF would be more likely to initiate merger talks...it would gain from an eastern merger everything that UP would lose.
What would hurt U.P. in an end to end merger?? It would give them the first coast to coast railroad.

[:D][8D] I do not think that the CSX-UP merger would ever get by the government regulators. I for one don't believe in government intervention into business affairs, but in this case I think that they would actually benefit form the government keeping the railroads separate form each other. The UP seems to have a short memory about their merger [B)][B)] with the SP which did not go as smoothly [:(][:(] as they would ever have you believe. [8D][8D]

My dear Mook --- --- only on SD-40's, and then only the front porch on some (DRGW's SD-40T2)

(Enjoy your "old engineer" on the SW10. Neither his horn nor he will be around long.)
