Great Night
Posted by traisessive1 on Friday, August 1, 2003 12:02 AM
So I went down to the yard tonight to watch 533 and the CPR interchange train do their switching and a guy I know who used to work for CN was there. So I was talking to him and in came 533. So he hopped in the loco and they began to switch. Like 5 min later the engineer asked me to come up. So i of course did, he said they would only be 20 min, but hey, 20 min seems like forever when you are a railfan in a cab. So when they were done he let me give the horn a shoot, so i did, and it was great.....so ya

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...

It looks a lot different from up in the cab, right?
And a good crew makes it look sooo easy!
Glad you had fun,
Stay Frosty

Oh, if only some of the BNSF engineers were so friendly in Eola yard, my day, week, month and year would then be complete (are you listening crew of train BRCGAL?)

Bein in an engine is addictive.
I have to say that the best part for me is talking to the crew.

Sorry guys, I forgot that some folks are not familiar with BNSF train symbols. So for the record train symbol BRCGAL stands for Belt Railway of Chicago to Galesburg, IL yard, thus BRC-GAL, some of the railroaders call it BRICK-GAL on the radio. This train starts its daily life at the Belt Railway of Chicago yard in Chicago and stops at the BNSF Eola yard to interchange cars (typically dropping off an average of 60-70 cars and picking up about the same) and then goes on to Galesburg for more work before returning. She typically spends about one to two hours at Eola switching as there are lots of other trains that get in her way (she must switch the halves of the yard on both sides of the main so Metra, Z trains, Amtrak, etc. always seem to get in the way multiple times and BRCGAL must wait as she is a low priority train that we have learned to love...she usually comes in with all sorts of different power, not a "99% of the time Dash 9 train". Hope this clarifies things for everyone.
