Always liked that scheme. I think they called it "sunburst" Remember back before the merger,they were associated with the C&O.

Colors: Fireengine Red and Light Blue
Commodities: Coal Automobiles and Steel products
Passenger: All double decker streamline passenger cars.
Mainline: Boston to Chicago via New York Philadelphia Pittsburgh and Cleveland
Also fast service with 200 MPH passenger service with 10 daily raound trips.

I'd just steal a good one from the past, probably the old Florida East Coast livery. Other candidates: the SAL passenger scheme (with a prettier shade of green), the Alton scheme, or Rock Island's red, maroon and silver.

I would probably go with red-maroon-yellow scheme based on Alton/GM&O and CGW schemes. (Although I've wondered what a simplified red-maroon scheme would look like. Something like the C&NW, with red for yellow and maroon for green.)

OTOH, a patriotic red-white-blue scheme might also be the ticket. (Think about that GM&O scheme, with blue for the maroon, and white lettering/striping. I would even consider using the blue on red scheme for passenger trains, and use a red on blue scheme for freight equipment.)

But then, I've also given some thought to a Christmassy red/dark green scheme. (So far I've only thought about boxcars with red sides and green roofs and ends.)

But cabeese must be bright red.

The orginal B&O Streamline scheme, Blue, Gray, Black with gold trim accents, except on Cincinnatian equipment which had silver/stainless trim accents. When either scheme was clean it was breath taking.

I'm wondering if Amtrak could use a patriotic scheme rather than the silver they currently use. It's just too much like Chicago "L" and not enough like Burlington Zepher... Paint the cars in a patriotic scheme, and let people know who owns it. (Is Amtrak like "American track" or something?)

I'll have to disagree on the red cabooses (they're not bad, really!), I would prefer cabooses that matched the locomotives. Actually, I'd pretty much have everything have the same look -- "dirty"!!! Just kidding. [}:)]

I do agree with the Amtrak post. I think the best paint scheme that Amtrak ever used was on one of their E9s, it was black with the "pointless arrow" -- looked very sharp! And a lot better than the Acela...
