My HO layout models the Vandalia Line in the late 1950s, as though it were never bought by Pennsy (which means I had to make up my own history from 1917 on...). However, it also connects to my purely freelanced "Atlantis, Beulah & Western", a railroad that, on the surface, looks like a composite of midwestern railroading in the first half of the twentieth century. The AB&W is =not= however located anywhere in the United States (or the rest of the world) and is simply its own microcosm reminiscent of the midwest 50 to 60 years ago. It allows me to capture the look and feel of that time and place without having it actually be there, which I think gives you a lot more room for creative leeway. Does anyone else have a similar railroad?
