BANNED! <br />[/quote] <br />maybe its different in the States, but here in Canada, "crown land" is open to the public's use, as long as they cohere to other laws. If your on public land, and you're taking pictures of trains which are on nearby railroad property, then the police can have nothing against you, as I believe that bnsfkline is pointing out. With a "license" of some sort, perhaps administered by the AAR, it would be all the easier to be a railfan.
