Talk about an interesting picture. Gabe I think #6900 was dead, but it still looked really cool. That was an AWFUL lot of locomotive on the front end of a business train! And I bet they had big enough fuel tanks, even for Mr. Krebs! [:p][:D][;)] Chris Denver, CO

The Dakota Southern bought it only for it's massive fuel tank which they used for fuel storage(not sure if they still use it or not). [Does Chamberlain have any rail service?/quote] Not anymore. When BN changed their tariff structure in the mid to late 90's,it effectively shut Dakota Southern out of the grain business[xx(]. Today the Dakota Southern does contract car storage and serves a box factory in Mitchell. If anyone has more questions, I'd be happy to help[8D] Aaron Reply Edit nanaimo73 Member sinceApril 2005 From: Nanaimo BC Canada 4,117 posts Posted by nanaimo73 on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 4:15 PM Is the bridge over the Missouri in Chamberlain still on pontoons? The CMSP&P got rid of the other two earlier.Wabasha in 1952 and Prarie du Chien in Oct.1961. Several deck girder spans near the shore and a few through truss spans over the center of the river. I've driven by about 30 times, including 2 weeks ago. The tracks west of Chamberlain are pretty weedy. Look for a related post from this past weekend regarding the state of SD selling trackage to BNSF in exchange for some open rail access. That might - might have a chance of bringing some lift back to Dakota Southern by allowing access to carriers other than BNSF at Mitchell. Here's a link to a cool panaramic pic of that bridge.
