The TV station is in Pittsburgh (with an "h", Pittsburg is in Kansas) the accident is in Oakland NNW of Pitt near New Castle.

NJMike -

Not a stupid question. Oakland is part of Pittsburgh (where the University of Pittsburgh is). The Oakland section of Pittsburgh is where the accident happened. Hope that helps.

Further clarification on Oakland. The actual crash location is a short distance east of Penn Station on the track between the former PRR and B & O mains.

it happend on the B&O PRR connection track? must have been the AVR that hit them then..or was it Amtrak...becouse they are the only 2 useers of this section of track now...

When did CSX stop running on there? Did I hear something about the Buffalo & Pittsburgh running on there now? A few months ago I saw a couple B&P trains on the line and wasn't sure what to make of it.

I remember reading this story back when the lawsuit was filed. Even Jim Quinn did a segment on her during his radio show.

I think NS should file a counter suit against her since she didn't have the word "Idiot" stamped on her head!

csx leasted the P&W sub to the AVR and the BP back on the 23rd of december of 03... along with the P&W sub..the AVR also took over controll and opporation of glenwood yard and the W&P sub to washington PA...csx still maintains the main track from braddock jct to fields becouse amtrak still uses this line...but all points west of fields are now AVR and BP maintance responsiblitys... the csx AS dispatcher still controlls the railroad as far as running any trains from braddock to P&W jct at new castle...but that is also going to change soon.....also the signal system between fiels and P&W jct is being abandon...its all going dark territory...

Thanks for the detailed information. Actual impact was just east of the tunnel.

The TV report was unclear as to whether the guy drove on the tracks themselves or if he was on a crossing.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize CSX leased the line. I used to ride the PAT bus to & from work and would see a CSX train coming off the NS main onto the P&W - I think it was at CP Bloom. At work when I had the time, I would watch Amtrak leave the station and then see how long it took until I saw them heading through Hazelwood (normally about 10 min). Haven't done that in a while.

yea...the P&W for csx is a thing of the past...also..with the hurrican ivan floods..alot of the line is washed out..around etna and some other places up long the line...it looked like it was gone forever..but i hear that the AVR and the BP are going to rebuild...they got funding from the state i think it was....

Shouldn't the headlines be reading "car drives in front of train" instead of "train hits car?" Or "driver runs gates, is struck" instead of "train hits car at crossing." Just the wording of most of these make it sound like the train is the bad guy, when in most cases we know better...

Although in this case, it sounds like there may have been a mitigating circumstance, if her wheel got stuck.
