What is the purpose of a DODX caboose?  Their DODX903 was on NS 148 today thru Fostoria, Oh.

You'll usually see them accompanying a sensitive cargo.

Certain Department Of Defense shipments have 'riders' (guards) who stay with the shipment from origin to destination.  The DODX 'caboose' is there for them to be able to ride along with the shipment.

Also hardened to serve as C4I in any 'situation' that might develop.

We have had threads both here and on the MR forums about how this has been designed and implemented over the years.

See linked @ http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=225220

Admittedly, photo dates to 2005 (?), but only paint might have changed ?

from the website @ http://rrpicturearchives.net/rsList.aspx?id=DODX&ci

Mostly, they provide quarters for personnel escorting some type of a secure load, or load requiuring enroute guards?
