Electroliner 1935What are you using for guy anchors?
Two will be on the building (house, garage). I'll probably pour a base for the third. Depending how deep I go, I might even be able to tie it into the bedrock here, which isn't very deep...
Part of that depends on how high I go. I'm not uncomfortable with 20 feet above the point where the tower will already be tied to the garage. Going 30 feet (total of 50') makes me a little nervous.
OTOH, the tower at our fire station is 60', something more than 30' of it free standing above where it's tied to the station, and it hasn't gone anywhere in the ~25 years it's been there. And it's got a higher wind load than mine will.
I have guy cord for the guys. The tower (bought used) was set up at 90 feet at one point, and what I bought included metal guys for that.
Except for the one guy anchor, all of that type of work is done. The rest I can do in cold weather.

Kind of busy while home today, had blood work this morning, then after errands went to my parents to change oil and filters in my pickup. $90 later, plus about an hour of my time, I have fresh oil and fuel filters for the coming year (I only put about 4,000 miles on my pickup a year, so once a year oil change is plenty, my drive is long enough that the lube oil gets hot enough to boil off the condensation.) While under the truck, checked out how the frame and floor are doing, which is surprisingly well for a 20 year old truck. Have to treat her to new rockers and fenders next tax time, as well as some rust prevention..........
Short Muskogee run this week, see the family doctor on Thursday. I'm sure that is going to be fun..........

Something strange today. My computer locked up at about 1700 and was unable to do anything until just a couple minutes ago 0102. Had to unplug power to shut it off and with restoring power just went back to lock ups. I know it must be a coincidence but isn't that the time of the level 3 CME ?

I'm curious about what make/model tower sections you have. I had one 30' tower of Rohn 25 with a bracket about 8' above the tower base. A bit later I put up 80' of Tri-ex T15 with guys at the 30', 60' ad 80' levels - a friend had a two 140' towers with T-15.

Quite frankly, I don't know. It's triangular, appears to be 1" tube with Z cross bracing. Spacing between the tubes is about 11".
I'll have to take a good close look to see if it's stamped somewhere.
The fellow I bought it from had this (90') and a 60' tower to sell. I missed out on the 60', so bought the 90'. I might go to 50', and will try to move the rest.
The tower will be tied off to the garage at about 18'.

We have sunshine!!! Checked out the ND&W and Csx.Contractors were up at the ND&W getting things around for this week.Said they had some work to do before installing the rail and the ties.Going to be working west of FC to Woodburn Indiana.Csx ran a few trains.Q 350 was 12000 ft long and q 352 needed a pilot at Garrett to get to the BRC.Heard on the scanner that 18m on Ns was having problems around Stryker Ohio.Also heard the railroaders are ready to strike if they are required to get a covid vaccine.Have some chores to finish here.Need to get Matt back to school as well.

Sounds like Rohn 25, especially if the top ends of the sections are swedged to fit into the bottom of the next section. The Rohn website will have information on how much antenna you can put up on the top.

All that's going on the rotor will be a loaded dipole (Diamond HFV5 - might be 10 feet across) and a UHF/VHF yagi. A 1.25m ground plane and my old base dual band will go down further.
I just replaced the old base antenna todaywith a better one (I hope). Plus I replaced the Radio Shack RG58 with some RG8, which will definitely make a difference.
It's coming along.
Best part is that I have a bunch of real, live tower steel (angle iron cross braces) that were excess when a 190' tower was built where I worked. Nicely galvanized and everything...

We have amazingly few leaves on the ground yet. I had to mow one more time yesterday, due to last weekend's rain.Last night was, as far as I could tell, the first of the season in which sub-freezing temperatures were recorded.Physical therapy begins today. I thought it was yesterday, but they set me straight when I arrived. I can't figure out how I wrote two dates down wrong when we were setting this up.

Most of the trees in my area of Central Maryland have yet to have their leaves change color, let alone turn brown and fall. First frost last night. Over 4 3/4 inches of rain last week.

Taking a locomotive from Utica to Thendara tomorrow for its inspection. Should be interesting to see the colors change as we increase in elevation.
I think the trees in the central Adirondacks are probably devoid of leaves by now.

For the last few mornings I've been watching the Cajon (Hesperia) webcam. For reasons not fully understood westbounds sometimes stop at Summit even though the traffic does not look heavy enough to run 'nose to tail'; when only two tracked this would be for a brake check as the steep 3% 'original' main had to be used.
However as I write an Eastbound has been stopped in front of the camera for an hour; very unusual as the next crossover is Frost about 10 miles to the east. The previous EB has progressed past CP Hodge per ATCSMon.

Set up the railroad's booth at the Syracuse train show. It's the first time in the new building and there were issues, mostly due to the fact that the club couldn't get into the building Thursday to lay things out before vendors started arriving today.
Tomorrow and Sunday I'll be at the booth most of the day. Stop by if you visit the show. It's at the NYS fairgrounds in the new building.
This is supposed to be a great weekend for yard work (as opposed to next weekend, when snow is expected). I'd love to get the raking done...except that so far (except where my neighbor's tree has shed a few) we haven't had many leaves fall yet!I went everywhere this afternoon to look for freight cars (from Bedford Park to Bryn Mawr, anyway, with many points in between), and found very few. What I did find has been noted and filed. Maybe tomorrow we can get out and really go somewhere.

Took Matt west of Defiance to look at the progress of the ND&W.On the way west we had to detour because of a bad accident.The new crossing is up at 127 north of Us 24.Its not just carnige rail on the ND&W.Found some other rail dated in the 40's and 70's in Antwerp.Went over to New Haven and found 3 gp 38-2 high hoods working the yard.Going to get Matt back to school tomorrow.Hopefully his other shoe is in his dorm.
Had to go to Deshler this morning.Someone decided it was a good idea to have a big fire then put the flaming debris on track 2.No more fire ring. No more firewood over in Deshler either.Csx was busy moving trains here and there.J 715 was in Defiance bringing cars for GM when I came home.Matt goes back to school today.

Day two of the Syracuse train show is in the books. Attendance seemed pretty good, although it was hard to tell, as the event was held in the new Expo Center building, which is significantly larger than previous buildings, so everything was that much more spread out.
Projects at home tomorrow, then another train on Tuesday.

We did go for a drive and saw the site of the new pedestrian tunnel at Western Springs (the west side of the town, close to the east end of the shoofly which might be going away soon). Friday I found out about a track relocation that had taken place in Proviso several months ago, giving the intermodal folks more room by their new entrance. The old access road to the towers is now wide enough to put in a center line... The three retarder towers and the maintainers' shanty are all still standing, but every time I look it seems like they're more in the way.

There's a white horse grazing north of the tracks near Grand Island NE.
At least that's what the track bulletin said the other day. I don't go that far, but we asked the inbound crew from North Platte if the horse is OK. They said there's a hole in the fence and this horse has been seen grazing there. When it's had it's fill, it finds it's way back to the field it came out of.
I had rules class today. I get to keep playing for a few more years. First time in 23 years, 100% on everything.

I never liked the rules classes. Intentional or not, there always seemed to be some intimidation going on, words about how tough the exam would be with the new rules, etc. I believe I retired just before another one. I had a few 100-percent scores during my time, but that didn't stop me from worrying about them. I'm sure when PTC came around, there would have been a whole lot of new stuff to cover. My particular position in the yard had no bearing on what I was expected to know for the tests. And, as I found out toward the end, it was easy to nod off during the "presentation." Another good reason for an old geezer to get out of there.
