OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific, which has been pruning intermodal lanes as it shifts to a Precision Scheduled Railroading operating model, has launched more frequent intermodal service between Denver, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. “Union...

Interesting that this involves relatively short domestic lanes, esp. from Denver.
Do we care about the potential effect of this on the revived "X train" between LA and Las Vegas?

I do not care!
(The photo is of BN/BNSF's Denver Intermodal facility [Rennick Yard/CB&Q], not UP's)
I would not be surprised if this involves routing most Denver-SLC freight via Sherman Hill and the intermodal is handled in blocks of cars on those long trains, with the blocks for Denver-LA being picked up in SLC by other intermodal trains coming from Chicago.
Already coming Denver Pacific, block swapping in Cheyenne. Nothing new - just more of it. At some point, Uncle Pete is going to have invest in a REAL intermodal facility for Denver.
Overmodrevived "X train"
For mysterious reasons when I read that, immediately the Thriller video started playing in my head .... spooky ....

Well, that would make good sense.

I'm puzzled. Is 'Denver Pacific' a new short line? UP Denver - SLC traffic will use the 'Harriman line' (main 3) and bypass Cheyenne.
Increasing SLC to Los Angeles service will be interesting to watch. Intermodals will have to be <9000 ft since there is almost no place for longer freights to pass; the eastern end of the Caliente sub is mostly ~6000 ft sidings. Meadow Valley wash is a photographers dream though. Back in the dark ages there was talk of double tracking the (slow) Cima grade between LV and Daggett, no action AFAIK.

I have a question: will this new service go into Cheyenne, or will it use the Borie Cutoff?
Also, non-related, how much WB traffic uses track 3 and how much uses track 1 or 2?
