Question about the recent Class II/Shortline mergers?
Posted by zkr123 on Monday, May 20, 2019 10:14 PM

Has anyone noticed that within the last 2.5-3 years there has been a significant increase of Class II and Shortline mergers/buyouts?

Is it a good or bad thing?

Although a lot of fans have been griping about shortline acquisitions by the major groups, I believe that it is generally a plus for the individual roads.  They have better access to capital for maintaining and upgrading the line and the other resources of the parent company can be utilized to help acquire new business.
