MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – The introduction of positive train control remains very much a work in progress, with all the bugs and growing pains that accompany a new technology. But for all that, PTC has definitely begun demonstrating its ability to a...

Sunday’s only other scheduled session, an update from Federal Railroad Administration Deputy Administrator Mathew Sturges, was cancelled because of the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government. FRA officials may not appear as scheduled at other events during the conference because of the shutdown.
So the FRA is not of sufficient importance to be reqired to work without pay?
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Nobody should have to work without pay.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

Absolutely!
You know, I'm reminded of something President Reagan said about a possible government shut down during his administration...
"Well, let's let the government shut down and see if anyone notices."
As long as people are forced to work without paychecks nobody, excpet those not getting paid, will notice.
I'm also not a fan of gov't officials that don't like gov't. I'd have more respect for their views if they weren't drawing gov't paychecks. But that's just my opinion.

As long as my annuity checks show up on time, no problem. It's all computerized anyhow - the only time a real person does much of anything is if I cause some sort of a manual change to be made. And even that could be completely automated.
Odds are that when I file my income taxes (on line), no human will see them, unless the software flags something.
Very few of my interfaces with the government require a human.

To most people NRC means Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Anyone having to work without pay is a bad thing, but think of the Federal law enforcement folks who go to work every day knowing this could be The Day - the day an inmate having a bad day sticks a shank in you, or a desperate thug who doesn't want to be arrested decides to run over you with his car to get away, or some crooked contractor decides your investigation is getting too close, and makes you part of his next concrete pour. And think of some blowhard politician who wouldn't know an unselfish act if it bit him in the butt, dismissing the work you do. Makes it pretty hard to maintain a good attitude.
Sincerely,
former Federal law enforcement person

The reality is that everyone that works 'without pay' will in fact get paid - just not in the expected pay check. Doesn't help pay this months rent, but the funds will be along after the shut down ends.
Those that don't work, will not get paid for not working after the shut down ends.
