Generation with far too much time and money on their hands.

This level of self absorption is revolting.

When I saw "viral videos" and "scandalous behavior" mentioned in conjunction with UP, I was expecting see some of what's been frequently shared from Donner Pass. Such as:

Stupid is as stupid does.

Makes me appreciate my students even more...we spent the morning productively in the Precambrian Lab and these are Native folk in their early 20's that have nothing...but every one is an aspiring Geologist and not an IDIOT spoiled over indulged useless MORON.

Looks to me like Trains is trying to join the New York Times in generating fake news. I thought better of Trains before I read their item

It wouldn’t really matter if UP did respond; according to Brian Schmidt’s new interpretation of the TOS here as of 8/31, graffiti discussions are verboten.  Or is there a point in posting news items when even beginning to discuss half their subject in a non trolling manner is a TOS violation?

For that matter, the content of the two links I shared are probably in violation of this site's guidelines too. I'll completely understand if the moderator(s) choose to delete them.

As they should. Idiots that do things like that and put in on YouTube are looking for attention. The best thing UP can do not give that attention. Some respected news sources and magazines don't quite get the concept.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

Because I'm sure your students never did anything others would consider stupid.  Every generation does stupid stuff.  Acting like this one is any more special is rediculous.  Onl difference is that this generation gets to go viral.

But if flying a drone around a train is the worst they can do, well, then I can live with it.   And I'm sure the guy flying the drone probably has a decent job.  Those things aren't cheap.

Get a grip, people.

And leaving engines stored out in the middle of nowhere, they're lucky the only thing was they got painted.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

I wouldn't worry about those snowboarders overmuch, they won't be in the gene pool too much longer.

Ahhh,,,Zugmann...how incredibly wrong you are....They are Cree and Dene', some Metis'....life itself is a struggle under conditions you would never accept. They are the best of the best and the top of the cream and the hope of their Bands....they have pledged themselves spiritually, not religiously. We, they, do not have fast food places, or dormitories, or even paved roads or any of the conveniences of a modern urban life.

Each one is a trained firefighter, for defense against our frequent forest fires, and must spend time on the family centuries old trap lines supporting the families requirement by bartering for basic groceries at our Trading Post with furs, fish and wild rice as per photos I posted on String Lining a while back. They are superb outdoorsman that would run circles around glamour campers and suburbanites and actually would laugh and pity them. Family is very strong. Acting foolish is not even a thought. That is a cultural trait. Yet they have the finest sense of humour imaginable.

Every single student that has gone through my classes has kept in touch with me and I am personally honoured by this.

They are successful technicians, technologists, engineers and geologists and all bring a very true and unique perspective on blending mankinds needs with what nature offers us. They would not understand a fella snowboarding over a train anymore than you can understand ISIS cutting off a journalists head.

Once again you are all wrong.

Our license plates here in Saskatchewan say "Land of Living Skies"

Yeah, yeah, we get it - all your students are perfect angels that never did anything remotely stupid.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

No it's just a cultural difference in a very rugged and tough environment.

Land of the Living Skies is right..you should come up sometime, see the skies, the Northern Lights, I'll take you fishing. Take you 3 hours South and see the big brick roundhouse, ex CNR, now Carleton Trails Rwy.

No McDonalds or anything like that, not even a Tim Hortons, but I brew fresh ground French Roast and there's a place an hour from here that you won't believe, makes the best Egg McMuffin thingie you ever had.

I would love to introduce you to my students. Don't think they will eat you.

Have you ever watched the old show Northern Exposure? This is it.

While I strongly condemn the drone flyby as dangerous and reckless, OTOH am I alone in really really really really really wanting to see the Tiger leading up a pack of engines on a train roaring by?

   Have fun with your trains

A drone flying at the same speed and direction as the train, about 100 feet ahead of the train and about 50 feet above the track; and then taking video toward the front of the train as it follows the drone would be very dynamic looking.  I would call it a "flying bird's-eye-view".

A similarly dynamic view would be from just above and behind the engines by a few cars, and looking forward while moving with the train.
