dakotafred I see a lot of complaining about capitalism on here, but name another system that has generated so much prosperity for so long for so many (until we chose to give our advantage away in stupid trade deals). Sure, a corpse like Hostess attracts vultures. Why not? The value the vultures salvage from it is not just for private pockets but finds its way back into the economy. The way things have always worked here. Hostess was supposed to stay on the same old track, overpaying people to make food the public is gradually getting too smart to eat?

Only complaining about some distorted forms of capitalism.

But Twinkies are back on the store shelves, and to the unwashed masses that is more important than who gets rich in the process.

zugmann Maqybe we could bring back slavery or indentured servants. Get rid of that pesky labor cost.

Not-so-brilliant analogy, Zug.
Getting rid of that "pesky labor cost" is the essence of business's love affair with imports. Or were you aware that those empty boxes you help haul back to the West Coast are really full of American jobs?
Wayne,
Good point. In those old days we had far less 'Publicly Traded' and more "Privately Owned" companys. Way more trust and honor in the private sector and we are far more likely to work from within. The large corps swap and trade mgmt. between them selves with little to no interest in lower mgmt promotion. This has in effect forced us to promote from within as we can't afford to pay obsurd salaries.
As far as labor is concerned, the good old days were not so good. Wal-Mart's tactic of firing people for union activity is hardly a new idea, what's new is their way of hiding the truth of the matter. Gotta keep the help cheap and docile.

That outsourcing allows for greater profits. Isn't that the point of capitalism? Why are you against it? Can't have it both ways.
No, those empty boxes are empty. We just get paid to move them (customer service). Your beef lies elsewhere.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
