Have the authorities, after examination of the remains, offered either a cause or manner of death?

The investigation is still ongoing, so there is no conclusive announcement about cause of death at this time.  Initially the sheriff of Elko County, NV, did a public announcment that stated they believed there was no foul play involved -- see here ---

However, Robin's parents have stated that actually the investigation is not done, and foul play is a possibility.  They have information about what was found at the scene that neither they nor law enforcement authorities are able to disclose because of the sensitive nature of the investigation, and they believe it strongly points to foul play.  Eventually I suppose that info will be made public, but for now it isn't being disclosed to the public.

Robin's parents report that his remains as found were in a condition equivalent to as if they had been there 75-100 years.  They were in an alkali wash in a desert setting, which apparently can do this to human remains.  So no autopsy could be done because of the state of the remains.

While I suspect there is little if any 'soft tissue' left, I would expect the skeleton to display some evidence if force was used against the individual.

I am assuming that he was riding Amtrak #6 eastward and that the least itme he was seen was in Salt Lake City the morning of July 8th.  Is that correct?
