Anyone have a name for the woodchuck that is living under the top of the steps on the right hand side?
Woody would be a good name. I have a pair of woodchucks living under my garden shed for a couple of years. I call them Mr. Woody Chuck and his Wife Gloria.
How about "Bury" - "B" for BNSF, "U" for UP, "RY" for Railways... and it lives mostly underground.

Saw the woodchuck the other morning .. Thinking Warren or Uncle Warren would be good since he is on the BNSF side.

had a setting blocking access
I'm getting it fine...but am dismayed at the number of people on the tracks for the 4014. It's probably in town now, but as far as I know, the other main line and the tracks of the BNSF are still live, or at least should be regarded as such.

That was a BNSF track inspection train. There is automated equipment in the coach and I have heard various resons for the covered hopper being there. It may be for braking purposes, the right number of brakes for the tonnage involved. It may be to have the right number of axles to correctly operate the signal system. Or it may be a buffer car to separate the equipment in the coach from the vibrations of the locomotive.
In any case, it seems to come over both tracks about once a month. At some point today it will go back over the other track, unless it was already by earlier this morning.

I'm going with assuring correct operation of the signal system. Especially crossing signal circuits.
Our version of GCOR requires train and engine moves of 12 physical axles or less to not occupy a crossing until it's known the protection is working and in a position (gates) to provide protection.

Was down by the UP transcon today waiting for 4014- watched a hi-rail truck come through and activate the C St. SW crossing gates.
Second main line was shut down while 4014 was in town.

Earlier this year, when I was reading the TRAINS article about the Golden Spike ceremony, I got a laugh when they decribed a boxcar that travelled with the officials private car as a "Provision Car". A great 19th Century name.
Looks like the Rochelle local has a new engine.
HLCX 1065 with 7 cars just cleared the BNSF mailine at 1015 CDT.
I don't know how the unit runs, but the paint job looks pretty good.
Hey Trains, Just watched the George Bush Special on the UP transcon at Kearny Nebraska WB at 17.50, on the Virtual Railfan network.
