The Government, as i stated before, would not Take over the company, but rather would use the laws of this country to force them to do certain actions. such as, disolve into 2 or more companies, instill higher training requirements, manditory federal inspections, fines, and other actions that they can level.

But with the railroads becomeing super Companies, almost 4 now, it's inevitable that they governement will disolve at least one soon. There is precedent in this, AT&T was forced to disolve into several smaller companies, even though there were 3 other National long distance carriers. Several electric companies were forced to disolve into smaller companies to stimulate competition. Microsoft was forced to split off divisions, even though there are plenty of other companies competing with them.

As i see it, one or more of the Big 4 will be forced to disolve soon, which ones will depend on who's the biggest and who's lost face with the government. UP, with it's negitive public image is a likely canidate for governement action, BNSF is getting close with it's recent problems. Remember you can run a company profitably and safely, but if it appears to the outside that it's being mismanaged, your company will take heat and even stock loss.
