Railfanning Guilford

Hi everybody,

I am planning a trip to the US to do some railfanning ( I am from Europe ) and I am still looking for a good ( and busy ) spot to watch Guilford - preferrably in the Boston Area. Also are there good places to watch / photograph MBTA. All other suggestions for New York State / New England are also welcome.

If you make it to the Midwest be sure to check out Rochelle, Illinois. LOts of traffic and set up for hassle free train watching.

As far as MBTA is concerned, there are several
good websites that might provide suggestions.
I usually just check MBTA timetables and go to
areas near the stations. I've heard that MBTA
is somewhat tighter about photography on their
property, so you might want to check ahead.

As for Guilford, the only area I've been to
happens to be a good one, though it's a couple
of hours from Boston: South Portland, Maine.
It's easy to get to (just off U.S. 1) and there's
always plenty of engines and trains as well as
some other equipment (plows, etc.). I understand
Amtrak also bases the Downeaster trains at South
Portland. Finally, if you want to see a nice,
small operation, you might want to look at the
St. Lawrence & Atlantic near Danville Junction,
Maine.
