I took another look at the site. $200,000 is a lot for units without a current blue card. Judging by the dates for the last 92 day inspection of the units at best they have a few days on their cards if out of service credit is available. The last inspections were in 2001 and this assumes that the units weren't robbed for parts to keep others in service. It also notes that the last heavy overhauls of the units were in 2000 and 2001, presumably by Amtrak. I don't see mention of overhauls after the units were sold to their current owner. With good GP40-2s available for less than $200,000 I'd be hard pressed to justify the price of these units to a corporate board. LC
