Truth is I was hoping to find info on a 132 mph run by Pendennis Castle !
[:)]
But here's verification of the Mallard doing 129 mph -- along with some US speed records info !!
http://mikes.railhistory.railfan.net/r070.html -- (Mike is
not
me)
[:)]
Has anyone got anything on that (unofficial) Castle speed record [?] -- back in the 30's, going down to Badminton, as I recall.

All of my documentation (Published RR Books) have the Mallard only getting up to 125 downhill for a mile (all downhill) on July 4, 1938.
MS: I was afraid this was going to be about how slow the BRRM (My) forum is compared to this one right now. heu!

OK, the site says
126 MPH
in 1938. that was for about 20 seconds according to 3 of my books. Its OFFICIAL SUSTAINED SPEED was the 125 mentioned above, which is on the plack on the side of the loco itself.
and just to mention, Kevin joined our little group at my forum, so all three of us are there! see ya "next door" as well put by Dough
