Shooting Photos in Fall

Some places around the country summer will hang on well into the early to mid Fall. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we can have times where a few lingering warm days greet us in September and maybe into October.

For us this means a lot cooler temperatures, the return of the rain, and gloomy days. There are however, those rare days that we can get some sun. The light is lower in the sky and the leaves are starting to turn on the trees which makes for some very impressive images to capture.

As we creep closer to the Winter Solstice, the sun tracking across the sky dips lower and lower making for some excellent shooting almost all day long. The gathering fall and winter at 46 degrees of North latitude, we will eventually bottom out with just over nine hours of daylight by the end of December. By that time of year, we are well into the cloudy, wet and cold weather that will last well into Spring.

The coming 6 weeks is prime time for us to shoot with the lowering light and the chance at some stellar blue sky days. Don't miss your chance to get out and take advantage of the conditions this fall! Where do you like to shoot photos in the Fall - share your thoughts and experiences.
