Maybe because your bookmark or link or whatever point to a  page that no longer exist? What URL are you trying to go to?

So let's see if I understand this.........This is about technical issues, correct so far?

This thread is to report new technical problems after the forum upgrade, yes.

    AF53

And if someone has a problem, someone (a technician) is supposed to get back to you?

Nope. This is just a place to report problems and to see if anyone else has had the same problem - there is no guarantee of a callback from a technician 24/7/365.

The guys which possibly could look into it work Monday thru Friday, not 24/7 - you are not going to get answers over the weekend.

If you *describe* your problem in a sensible way instead of just vaguely referring to it as "still having the same issue" and "a problem posting from my cell".

     Good luck,
     Smile,
     Stein

  • Stein - Not sure if you are part of Kalmbach or not, but here goes. When I said " someone is supposed to get back to you" and you replied "Nope" well someone did. I received an email that day stating that someone will get back to me in 2 business days (they did on Wednesday).

You also asked me "describe my problem in a sensible way instead of just being vague", well If you read my post, I referenced the post just minutes before the post you are talking about. (check the prior page, it's at the bottom) and you will clearly understand my problem.

I was a bit upset because I had already reported this issue on Aug 21 as I posted from my cell and then immediately from my computer with different results.

I appreciate when someone helps others, I really do. But it kind of came off a bit condescending.

Or, as I pointed out - technicians wouldn't get back to you on a Saturday (the day you posted to ask that someone get back to you) - you would have to wait until over the weekend - in this case it happened on Wednesday.

My apologies. Of course the text "l t t a  t" is a succinct description of what you did and what happened.

I don't work for Kalmbach, but I also work with IT tech support. I still find it amazing how many people think that a bug report consists of just describing the end result, instead of describing where they started from, what they did (buttons clicked etc), date and time, and end result, allowing someone else to to try to reproduce the error, check logs etc.

But glad you got help with your problem, whatever it was.

  • Stein - Well maybe you might be able to suggest a solution to my problem. Let's try?

While I proceed to post from my Samsung Galaxy S III, I enter all the letters of a given word, but only the first letter of every word appears. Hence when I typed "Let's try this again. Test" the only thing posted, at the bottom of page 26, was the first letters of each word.

About 30 minutes later I went to my computer and posted again, which is what appears at the top of page 27.

I hope this "Bug Report" is clear enough for you in helping me with my problem.

Okay, so trouble entering text with the post editor when using (presumably) the default web browser on Samsung Galaxy S3, ie under Andoid 4.

What version of the post editor were you using - plain text or enhanced (Community settings | Advanced Options | Content Editor) ? Did the other version work? If so, you had a temporary workaround until a technician with backend access could check more.

At first look a problem which have to be fixed by someone with access to style sheets and possibly the tinymce editor configuration files on the web server (and possibly resources at Telligent software) - not likely that other users could help you (apart from suggesting maybe trying the plain text editor as a temporary workaround if you were using the enhanced text editor).

Anyways - what was the solution? What was done?

/ctt/f195/p/208685/2294181.aspx  according to the error message

    Here is the URL

/ctt/f195/p/208685/2294181.aspx  according to the error message

If I just try to access a random thread in the CTT forum, I get a URL like this:

    http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/209569.aspx.

Seems like the URL format has changed again (/f/95 instead of /f195, /t instead of /p, and probably more), as it did on the last major update two years ago :-/

Someone at Telligent probably dropped the ball (again) on how to handle old links in the new version. You would think it would be part of a forum upgrade to think about how old links would be handled in the new version, since people _will_ create links (shortcuts, favorites, google search results or whatever) to anything on the Net.

Only suggestion for now is to navigate to the same place and make a new shortcut or favorite using the new URL format.

Maybe Kalmbach can do some rewrite rules  on their webfront if the URL have changed according to a fixed pattern.

Yep -  I can do this:

     Old: cs.trains.com/ctt/f195/p/208685/2294181.aspx
     New: cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/208685.aspx

and get directly to the Coffee Pot thread of the CTT forum, if that was what you tried to reach?

So it ought to be possible to make a UR rewrite rule on Kalmbach's web server to handle such stuff automatically.

     Smile,
     Stein

  • Stein. Maybe you were onto something there. I'm on my cell now and I changed my settings to plain text. Apparently that was the problem. However I lost the option for font size, colors etc.that I use to have. Thank you.

  • I selected the 'Your Discussions' tab and then clicked on one of the threads.  I then clicked the 'Reply' button, entered the text, and clicked 'Post'.  Everything appeared to work normally, but the reply was never shown when I returned to the thread.

  • I tried to do a search for "Your Discussions" before posting my previous post.  The search returned over 1100 posts.  There used to be a feature called Narrow Your Search in the previous forum where I could put quotes around the words to get an exact match of the phrase.  That appears to be missing on the new forum.

I would also like to see a thread explains the new forum and how to use the new features.

Yeah your link takes me right to the Coffee pot but I still get the same error message if I try to log in from there.. it seems the only place I can log in without the error is from the main home page.
