Five turnouts on my small (4X6) N scale layout. All working properly, BUT the train stops on one of the tracks and will move only when I engage the turnout on a distant track. I should know the answer to this but the electronics are still new to me. Do I need separate feeders, different turnouts?

A set of feeders will probably do it. It sounds like that segment of track is getting power only from the thrown switch. It would be easier to be sure if you post a track diagram and tell us to you are running DC or DCC.
