Doesn't seem right

  • For the life of me, I cannot couple enough power to climb the western side of Marias Pass..

I usually start out at the Essex Pit, but I've yet to reach the summit..

I've even went so far as to assemble 17 (yes, thats seventeen) SD90MAC's on a 90 car loaded coal train (110 ton hoppers) and didn't even make it to Blacktail.. the locomotives were assembled with 5 on the head end, 5 mid train, and 7 pushing..

Doesn't seem plausible to me.. just over 12000 tons of total weight to pull, with 102,000 horsepower on tap.. should climb that grade with ease..

anybody happen to know the grade on the western side? Particularly from Java to the summit..

anyway.. done ranting.. anybody have any feedback? or insight? I'm bored with pulling the eastern side..

  • Have you released the brakes, both engine and train? Don't laugh, you would be surprised how many times someone doesn't. I have on a couple times. Esp when the eng file is set up with the engine break ona.

  • you know what i dont think in train helpers and helpers in general really do much at all. They have an idle sound.but nothing more....id put em ALL up front....thats your best bet of it working.....yet another thing found wrong

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...

  • Try to distribute the power more.... i don't know but the rest of the engines might be just being pulled and not helping at all.... I doesn't seem right.
Try starting at the different place.

  • ok.. assembled a new consist.. 10 SD90MAC's head end only, 101 110 ton hopper loads..

still stalled out at the same place (around MP 1160)

I had plenty of momentum too, literally jumped the switch at Java West...

gonna try some different power this time.. rule out an issue with the SD90MAC..

  • sorry to keep making posts.. hopefully this is perking some interest....

lashed up a Geep leading 4 SD40-2s.. pulling 25 110 hoppers.. died on the grade before Essex Pit (MP 1176.4)

does MSTS recognize ANY locomotives after the player driven unit? I had well over 14000 hp there.. didn't pull worth crap..

    ugh..

  • Something doesn't work out here..... that's with 25 hoppers[?] I never use GP38-2 in anything, it doesn't work.... try getting up with the default consist.....
i'll try to use my d9 with 87 oil on the grade see how it works.
    Good Luck
