Doesn't seem right

  • For the life of me, I cannot couple enough power to climb the western side of Marias Pass..

I usually start out at the Essex Pit, but I've yet to reach the summit..

I've even went so far as to assemble 17 (yes, thats seventeen) SD90MAC's on a 90 car loaded coal train (110 ton hoppers) and didn't even make it to Blacktail.. the locomotives were assembled with 5 on the head end, 5 mid train, and 7 pushing..

Doesn't seem plausible to me.. just over 12000 tons of total weight to pull, with 102,000 horsepower on tap.. should climb that grade with ease..

anybody happen to know the grade on the western side? Particularly from Java to the summit..

anyway.. done ranting.. anybody have any feedback? or insight? I'm bored with pulling the eastern side..

  • Yes, it does recognize other engines in the consist. I have created quite a few activites for Sandpatch, Cajon and Tehacapi Pass. These are all a steeper grades that MP. I have done quite a bit of experimenting to get the number of engines right. If you are interested go to the Lone Wolf Activites forum at www.3dtrains.com.

If you are trying on the MP that came with MSTS, get MPV3.1 at www.train-sim.com. The grades in the default MP are all wrong, among other things MS got wrong. You must leave the default routes in the routes folder to use most of free routes at T-S.com.

Another thing - the physics in the eng and wag files are the pits. MSTS again reallly missed things. A file called physics 4.5 at train-sim.com have revised physics that get thing closer to real that the junk physics out of the box.

Sounds on all but the lead unit - Unless there is a AI engine file, you will not hear the othere engines run up when accelerating. I have created AI files for quite a few engines using either one of Maple Leaf Tracks AI engine files as a basis or using one of Dekosofts AI engine files from Chip's new UP pack. The trigger for using an SMS file for AI engine requires you to change the scalability value in the sms file.

While it is nice for Kalmback to provide a forum here, you would get more information at train-sim.com, UKTrainsim.com, or 3dtrains.com forums. The people at these sites have been tearing apart the sim since it first came out and have changed things so this sim is a completely different critter that MS put out.

  • Something doesn't work out here..... that's with 25 hoppers[?] I never use GP38-2 in anything, it doesn't work.... try getting up with the default consist.....
i'll try to use my d9 with 87 oil on the grade see how it works.
    Good Luck

  • sorry to keep making posts.. hopefully this is perking some interest....

lashed up a Geep leading 4 SD40-2s.. pulling 25 110 hoppers.. died on the grade before Essex Pit (MP 1176.4)

does MSTS recognize ANY locomotives after the player driven unit? I had well over 14000 hp there.. didn't pull worth crap..

    ugh..

  • ok.. assembled a new consist.. 10 SD90MAC's head end only, 101 110 ton hopper loads..

still stalled out at the same place (around MP 1160)

I had plenty of momentum too, literally jumped the switch at Java West...

gonna try some different power this time.. rule out an issue with the SD90MAC..

yeah.. double checked.. that was the first thing I went for... thought I was draggin the consist..

I'm gonna couple about 20 units on the head end.. try not to rip a drawbar.. and see what happens..

thanks guys! I'll let ya know in a bit..

  • Try to distribute the power more.... i don't know but the rest of the engines might be just being pulled and not helping at all.... I doesn't seem right.
Try starting at the different place.

  • you know what i dont think in train helpers and helpers in general really do much at all. They have an idle sound.but nothing more....id put em ALL up front....thats your best bet of it working.....yet another thing found wrong

10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...
